We highlighted work-based learning programs last night at the Board of Education meeting. These programs are employer-connected experiences that allow K-12 students to participate in career awareness, career exploration, and career development. In Waukesha, we offer students the opportunity to participate in work-based learning as interns or youth apprentices in various career pathways. Last year, we had over 100 students participate in a work-based learning program. Currently, we have 151 kids in the program this year. Here at Blair, we employ five students (Maddie B., Elena F., Lizzie K., Liam W., and CJ Z.) as interns.

We are proud to announce the 2023 Wisconsin School Social Worker of the Year was presented to Mary Green at the Wisconsin School Social Workers Association (WSSWA) Annual Conference on November 10, 2023.
Mary is a School Social Worker in the School District of Waukesha, most recently serving the students of Waukesha South High School. Mary has assisted with implementing many school-based mental health services, has created multiple "clothing closets" to meet the needs of students, and is working to tackle and improve attendance and engagement systems in her school.
Mary's nominator said, "Mary does not just admire a problem; she strives to find equitable solutions that positively impact the students, families, and school. She is a voice of calm reason that is so needed in challenging times. Her positive attitude and strong work ethic have made the School District of Waukesha a better place."

Today is a special observance day in Wisconsin. We stand together to remember and honor the sacrifices made by countless individuals during times of conflict. Armistice Day, also known as Veterans Day, is a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the brave men and women who served our nation and contributed to the cause of peace.
As we wrap up this Friday afternoon, we hope all of our School Psychologist had a great National School Psychology Week! We are grateful for all of our School Psychologists and appreciate everything they do to help all students thrive.
